The Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. (RFMH) has an immediate full-time opening for (1) Employment Specialist at the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH). This position is funded by the Promoting Readiness of Minors in Supplemental Security Income (PROMISE) initiative funded by the United States Department of Education.
Applicants must have a Bachelor's degree in a behavioral, social, health, or mental health, public health/administration and a minimum of three-years of experience in an appropriate field, and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Candidates with experience in the vocational rehabilitation, employment, transition, and/or disability benefits field specifically pertaining to individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities and working within the context of federally funded projects are preferred. A successful candidate should be familiar with federal regulations and guidelines related Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI), and Medicaid with knowledge and have experience in employment programs, and/or disability benefits services. Candidate must be bi-lingual English/Spanish. Candidates must have demonstrated experience in managing cross-site projects in multiple locations and should possess strong communication, interpersonal and written skills, be highly organized and have demonstrated experience working as a member of a team. Competency with web-based database applications like NYESS, JobZone, and CareerZone.
The Employment Specialist will provide direct employment and vocational interventions to youth with disabilities between the ages of 14-21. The Employment Specialist will need to interface with businesses in the community to develop assessment sites, and connect youth to employment opportunities. The Employment Specialist will also be responsible for providing assessment, job coaching, and ongoing vocational support to a caseload of 40-50 youth in relation to the overall goals of PROMISE. Primary work will be focused in the Bronx, but may extend to other boroughs as needed. In addition, the incumbent is responsible for special tasks assigned by the Director and/or Project Coordinator. Minimal over-night in-state travel is required.
