The Suicide Prevention Center of New York, part of the Research Foundation for Mental Hygiene, Inc. (RFMH) is currently seeking a qualified candidate to serve as a part-time (40% effort, 16 hours per week) Suicide Prevention Research Coordinator at either its Manhattan or Albany office. There is a startling rise in suicidal behavior among Black teenagers in New York State. RFMH is seeking to implement suicide prevention interventions in predominantly Black churches throughout New York State. RFMH is looking for a team member with strong community engagement experiences to lead culturally tailored programs to reduce suicidal behavioral among Black teens. Experiences conducting human subjects research is desired but not required. The candidate must have strong customer service orientation, attention to detail, and demonstrated experience in strategic planning, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving skills. The candidate must also have strong analytical skills and the ability to compile, analyze information and develop action steps to further the prevention agenda. This candidate should have demonstrated experience in multiagency engagement and collaboration, with a particular focus on working with African American churches. Additionally, strong verbal and written communication skills are required.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will:

  • Work with Black teens and their families from varying socio-economic backgrounds
  • Collaborate with the New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH)
  • Have experience or knowledge of Community-Based Participatory Research (CBPR)
  • Be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Be proficient in NVivo or similar Qualitative Data Analysis Program
  • Have strong leadership skills and ability to recruit and supervise Masters-level research volunteers
  • Submit receipts and consultation pay order forms for subjects' participation
  • Utilize Qualtrics or other web-based survey platforms to administer research surveys
  • Attend church and other community meetings (virtually and in-person when deemed safe)
  • Assist with subject recruitment, subject payment, data entry and analysis, and manuscript preparation
  • Draft revisions and annual continuation process for Institutional Review Board (IRB) submissions
  • Submit annual progress reports
  • Lead the development / refinement of community mental health referral guides
  • Be comfortable with administering suicide risk assessments

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have completed at least a master's level degree in social work, psychology, or a related field.
  • Two years of related work experience
  • Experience working with teens and adults with DSM-5 mental disorders

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Doctoral level candidates (e.g., PhD, DSW) are also encouraged to apply

In accordance with NYS Office of Mental Health regulations, RFMH employees at NYSPI are required to be vaccinated with at least one dose of vaccine against COVID-19 by Monday, November 1st, 2021, and to be fully vaccinated by December 10, 2021.
