The Suicide Prevention Center of NY recently received a grant from the New York State Health Foundation to develop, test, and refine a formal suicide fatality review process that includes a new data collection tool and quarterly review team meetings. The goal of this project is to improve the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of the state's suicide data and to use the information collected to inform suicide prevention efforts at the local level. The incumbent will work with county medical examiners/coroners, medical death investigators, project staff and consultants, suicide prevention coalitions, the NYS Office of Mental Health and Department of Health, and the NYS Health Foundation to provide project management and support.

We are seeking a passionate and ambitious colleague who possesses excellent leadership, a strong understanding of data and evaluation from a pubic health perspective, writing, presentation, and group facilitation skills, has keen attention to detail, and works well within a multidisciplinary team. Applicants must possess a minimum of a master's degree, preferably in public health or a similar social sciences-related field. Post-graduate experience in project management and/or grants management and knowledge and experience in a behavioral health-related field are preferred.

  1. Engaging, managing, coordinating, and supporting medical examiner and coroner's offices in the adoption of the suicide fatality review model, including assistance assembling suicide fatality review teams, leading quarterly review meetings, developing and implementing the new data collection tool, and providing training
  2. Working with project staff, counties, and agency stakeholders to promote the incorporation of the elements of this model into existing county systems
  3. Developing and carrying out an evaluation of the process and a plan for providing recommendations based on the data obtained
  4. Completing reports required by the NYS Health Foundation
